More exciting input on the wonders of subtweeting.....
Who are you and what is your relation to me? I’m Emily Huepfel and I’m your roommate. We’ve been roommates since freshman year.
- Do you use social media often? Yes, all the time.
- Have you heard about subtweeting before? Yes, I have.
- Where did you first hear of/observe subtweeting? I remember hearing about subtweeting pretty much when I first got my twitter, which was, I think sophomore year of high school. Do you want me to explain what it is?
- Give me a brief definition of subtweeting in your own words. It’s basically just tweeting about someone passive aggressively like without saying specifically it’s about that person, but it is. It totally is.
- Have you ever been subtweeted about that you know of? What were the circumstances? Yes. Another one of our roommates has subtweeted me, and I think the both of us. Do you want more context? Just about like roommate problems or things, like cleanliness, and things like that.
- Why do you think they chose to subtweet about you? I think she was angry that she wasn’t getting her way.
- So, it wasn’t a positive experience? No, it wasn’t.
- Have you seen anyone subtweet me? Why do you think they did so? Yeah. For the same reason. I mean it never feels good, it’s kinda like bullying in a way. Cyberbullying.
- Do you think subtweeting can be categorized as cyberbullying? Yeah, I think so. It doesn’t really make you feel good. Because even though we might not care that she thinks that about us, she like told all of her followers. And yeah it’s out there.
- What do you think are some of the possible outcomes of subtweeting? I guess it depends on if you confront them about it or not. If you confront them about it, then they can either like be like “oh my god it totally wasn’t about you!”, which is stupid, or they could get really defensive about it. Or, you could pretend nothing happens and they think they get away with like “haha i told everyone so-and-so and they have no idea” and that kind of makes the victim feel worse.
- What advice would you give to frequent subtweeters? Stop it. Don’t do that. It’s super rude.
